Job Description:
Nature of Work
This is professional auditing work of moderate difficulty in the
examination and verification of complex public and private
financial records. Employees in this class are assigned relatively
independent responsibilities for a major segment of audits, such as
analyzing internal controls. Supervision may be exercised over
other auditors and administrative staff. Employees in this class
are required to assist in audits of a confidential nature.
Positions in this class are distinguished from Staff Auditor by the
complexity of the work and the amount of independent professional
judgment exercised. Advanced knowledge of auditing theory and
practices and an understanding of governmental accounting standards
are required. An employee in this position conducts audit
conferences; performs audits of complicated financial transactions
and other operational activities varied in nature as opposed to
routine mental, manual, mechanical, or physical work. Work also
involves the consistent exercise of independent judgment and
discretion in its performance.
Essential Functions
Some of the duties for this position include, but are not limited
to, the following: conducts assignments including examining,
analyzing, and verifying accounting records and financial data of
City departments; checks on compliance with the City's code,
procedures, and policies of a financial, operational, and
administrative nature; evaluates existing rules, methods, forms,
and controls for the purpose of conserving the City's resources and
for the general protection of its interests with respect to its
assets, liabilities, revenues, and expenditures; conducts and
supervises audits of outside agencies and entities who have a
contractual agreement with the City; may review and supervise the
work of other auditors and administrative staff; has a role in
auditing of budgets for various City departments and/or outside
agencies; and performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor
(CIA) license and four (4) years responsible experience in
auditing. Six (6) months supervisory experience is preferred.
Experience utilizing automated spreadsheet database and financial
management applications, and Audit Control Language application is
desired.
