Medical Assistant Transplant, MTI Pediatrics, FT, Day - Miami,
FloridaDescription Position Summary: The Transplant Medical
Assistant performs administrative and certain clinical duties under
the supervision of a licensed physician but directly reports to a
Nurse Supervisor or Associate Director. Emphasis of the work is on
assisting physicians in the examination and treatment of patients
and performing a variety of related clerical tasks. Performs
clinical duties as prescribed by Florida Statute ( 458.3485) and
include performing clinical procedures, aseptic procedures, taking
vital signs, preparing patients for physician care, venipunctures
and non-intravenous infections, observing and reporting patient
vital signs or symptoms, administering basic first aid, assisting
with patient examinations or treatments, operating basic medical
equipment, collecting routing laboratory specimens, administering
medication as directed by physician, performing basic laboratory
procedures. Specialized in providing patient care in our Transplant
clinic.Duties & Responsibilities: Responsive in meeting patient
flow processes that reduce patient waiting time for procedures and
appointments. Adjusts work pace, as directed to meet volume demands
of our Transplant clinic needs. Provides communication/updates to
patients on delays in service/other pertinent information. Greet
patients and provides patient education/discharge instructions to
patients level of understand in the Transplant clinic. Performs
basic clerical duties, as well as assist Transplant Clinical
Coordinators with prepping of patient charts, preparing patients
for presentation to the organ specific listing committee,
collecting, collating and organizing medical records and key
information in pre-defined format to comply with UNOS and CMS
regulatory requirements. Schedules and arranges appointments for
patient follow up, radiology testing, consults or any other study
requested by physician or Transplant Clinical Coordinator.
Instructs patients about medication and special diets; prepares and
administers medication as directed by physician; authorizes drug
refills as directed; and telephones prescription to pharmacy.
Participates in Transplant Performance Improvement
projects/activities and QAPI initiatives to insure continuous
improvement of services provided to our patients. Displays at all
times professionalism through a positive and ethical attitude,
serves as a liaison between the patient and others. Orients
patients to office policies and procedures. Locates resources and
information for patients and physician as needed. Utilizes
Transplant database in daily operations for patients in clinic.
Documents accurately and according to policy. Maintains inventory
equipment and supplies. Sterilizes instruments. Maintains aseptic
technique and maintains accurate sterilization records according to
policy. Takes EKG's, removes sutures and changes dressings. Sets up
for procedures and prepares examining room instruments and
equipment. Draws blood as needed. Demonstrates behaviors of service
excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and
Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as
assigned.QualificationsExperience: Generally requires 0 to 3 years
of related experience.Education: High school diploma is
required.License Certification: Certification by the American
Association of Medical Assistants or credentialing as a Registered
Medical Assistant by the American Society of Medical Technologies
preferred. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support
(BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification with at least 6 months
validity required.Knowledge Skill Abilities: Ability to analyze,
organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple
deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and
written form. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations
with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to
understand and follow instructions. Ability to exercise sound and
independent judgment. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate
technology and software applications.Physical Demands: Job function
requires extended standing or walking. Must be able to carry
objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds. Able to lift or move objects
weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices. Jobs
in this group require frequent visual acuity to perform activities
related to extended use of computers. Additional information and

Frequent interaction with a diverse population including team

of the public. Function is subject to inside environmental
conditions, with occasional outdoor exposures. Exposure to various
environments such as: communicable diseases, toxic substances,
medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a hospital
and medical office environment. May also be exposed to needle
sticks, airborne infections, medical gases, X-Ray, chemical
exposures and other potential hazards. Must wear Personal
Protective Equipment (PPE) when exposed to infectious/clinical
