Job Description Job Title: Dental AssistantSummary:Dental
professional who performs clinical and administrative duties under
the direction of the Dentist/Dental Director. Prepares treatment
room for patient by following prescribed procedures and protocols.
Prepares patient for dental treatment by welcoming, comforting,
seating, and draping patient. Provides information to patients and
employees by answering questions and requests. Essential Job
Functions
- Selecting and setting up instruments, equipment and material
needed
- Assisting the dentist during a variety of treatment
procedures
- Taking and developing dental radiographs (x-rays)
- Asking about the patient's medical history and taking blood
pressure and pulse
- Preparing and sterilizing instruments and equipment
- Helping patients feel comfortable before, during and after
dental treatment
- Providing patients with instructions for oral care following
surgery or other dental treatment procedures, such as the placement
of a restoration (filling)
- Teaching patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to
maintain oral health;(e.g., tooth brushing, flossing and
nutritional counseling)
- Taking impressions of patients' teeth for study casts (models
of teeth)
- Performing office management tasks that often require the use
of a personal computer
- Communicating with patients and suppliers (e.g., scheduling
appointments, answering the telephone, billing and ordering
supplies)
- Helping to provide direct patient care in all dental
specialties, including pediatric dentistry and periodontics
- Keep the dental room clean and well-stocked
- Maintain accurate patient records and assist with payment
proceduresRequired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Diploma from a Florida board-approved Dental Assistance school
or program in addition to a high school diploma / GED. Additional
certification or training is an asset (e.g. EFDA).
- Minimum 1-2 years dental assistant experience.
- Knowledge of dental instruments and sterilization methods.
- Understanding of health & safety regulations.
- Well-organized with great attention to detail.
- Outstanding customer service skills and the ability to work
with diverse populations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to maintain effective rapport
with patients, dentists, other staff members and the
community.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills,
which includes superior telephone etiquette. Bi-Lingual a
plus.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Team player.
- PC proficient.
- Ability to complete projects with minimal
directions/instructions.
- Ability to handle various special projects on an ongoing basis
while addressing daily needs for the department.Physical Demands
- Required to talk and hear
- Stand for long periods of time
- Walk
- Use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and
arms.
- Frequently lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is
regularly exposed to blood and blood-borne pathogens and/or
