Category Health Care Summary : The Medical Assistantperforms
administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of
the Medical Director. Administrative duties may include scheduling
appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding for
insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and
recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing consumers
for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as
directed by physician. Assist physician in care of minor medical
conditions of consumer, and with medical assessment. Record
consumers' medical history, vital statistics, or information such
as test results in medical records Prepare treatment rooms for
consumer examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean Interview
consumers to obtain medical information and measure their vital
signs, weight, and height. Review medications and oversee the
self-medication process Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory
specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.
Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to
pharmacies. Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, or
physicians' instructions to consumers. Clean and sterilize
instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies. Schedule
appointments for patients. Change dressings on wounds. Greet and
log in patients arriving at office or clinic. Perform routine
laboratory tests and sample analyses. Perform general office duties
such as answering telephones, taking dictation and completing
insurance forms. Contact medical facilities or departments to
schedule consumers for tests or admission. Inventory and order
medical, lab, or office supplies or equipment. Perform routine
laboratory tests and sample analyses. Set up medical laboratory
equipment. Operate equipment to administer routine diagnostic
tests. Conduct skin testing. Assists department in maintaining
communications with outside agency health care practitioners and
record in the consumer records log. Assists department in
periodically documenting consumer status regarding medical
deviations. Assists department in communicating all significant
status changes to Medical Director and Primary Therapist Assists
department in following up with outside providers to access all
current information regarding consumers condition as well as to
provide continuity of care. Attend Clinical Case Conference as
assigned by Medical Director. Education: Active Certification as a
Certified Medical Assistant. Experience in the area of substance
abuse/chemical dependency is preferred. Bilingual is preferred. CPR
Certification, First Aid Certification and an annual Tuberculosis
test. Ability to provide an Affidavit of Good Moral Character
Clearance in Pre-Employment Drug Testing and Criminal Records
Checks, as required. During your tenure with WestCare there may be
new requirements, including, but not limited to vaccinations that
are issued by local, State, Federal, and/or Funders that WestCare
