Overview





The School Health Clinical Coordinator is an experienced School Health RN who will coach and mentor staff to resolve challenges, answer questions, and provide individualized education to help staff become more engaged and productive. This position will require scheduled on-school site supervision, mentoring, training of staff or performing the School Nurse duties at different schools (float) to ensure required staffing requirements are achieved. Employees in this class perform duties in accordance with established regulations, policies, nursing standards, and medical instructions within each assigned work location.






Responsibilities





Essential Functions:--Provides a student-centered approach to care for all students from PreKindergarten to Grade 12 in the school setting.--Provides first aid and injury care to students with urgent health needs.--Provides triage and treatment (as needed) to students with symptoms of potential communicable disease.--Maintains infection control and use of PPE as directed per School Health guidelines. Plans and provides preventative care and well student services for the student population.--Provides nursing assessments to students, and counseling, including referrals to students and parents.--Manages students with chronic health problems, providing school-based services related to student-specific health care plans.--Liaises with students, parents, and school-based staff to develop student-specific case management plans for students with chronic health problems.--Initiates, develops, and maintains student health records utilizing the electronic School Health medical record system.--Provides information concerning programs available for children with chronic health problems or disabling, and/or terminal illnesses.--Liaises with hospital-based staff for students receiving long-term hospitalization with a view to transitioning to hospital homebound care, prior to re-entry into school.--Administers medications to students prescribed by a licensed health care provider with parental consent in accordance with established protocols and care plans.--Identifies high-risk students and liaises with school administrator and staff in the coordination of school-based care and activities requiring health-related support.--Works closely with the School District Data Processors providing guidance and technical assistance in the identification of students that are non-compliant with established immunization and health assessment requirements.--Counsels parents on child-specific health needs by referring to a health care provider or community agencies as needed.--Works closely with other registered nurses, Practice leaders, and School Health Administration to provide follow-up and nursing case management related to vision, hearing, body mass index (BMI), and scoliosis screening outcomes and reports.--Reviews and updates student electronic health files, forwarding them to appropriate destination when students transfers to another school within the District. Is able to navigate electronic medical records being proficient with a standard computer and keyboard including but not limited to software programs.--Serves as a student health resource person to students, parents, guardians or foster parents and school personnel.--Develops and conducts group education sessions and/or educational messages, bulletin boards or articles in cooperation with school staff and established HCD guidelines.--May be required to supplement the services, which may require the nurse to float to another school location on occasions to enhance nursing support and bridge a gap in student health services.--Supports school staff and provides education and training to school staff on medication administration, and general information on life-threatening health conditions.--Monitors the school environment including the school campus for health and safety issues advising school administrators of potential risks to students in a timely manner.--Actively participates on School-Based Team contributing essential nursing/medical information relative to student progress and success.--Precepts, coaches, trains, and mentors staff assigned to particular school health room; highly accessible to help resolve challenges, answer questions, provide education, and help staff be more engaged and productive.--Provides direct supervision, oversight, and training to licensed practical nurses and certified nursing assistants; determines competency to assume delegatable tasks/activities; performs non-delegatable tasks at assigned schools (e.g. nursing assessments, case management, physician and parentconsultations, etc.) to supplement services when the RN-Lead Nurse is not available.--Emergency duties will be required that include assisting community or hospitalbased organizations or staffing emergency community shelters. Staff will be directed to perform other emergency duties based on clinical experience including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural.--






Qualifications





Education:Associate's degree or diploma in nursing from an accredited nursing institution required. Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.--Experience:A minimum two (2) or more years of experience in pediatric, emergency department, school health, and/or community health nursing with acute and/or long-term care experience is required.--At a minimum two (2) or more years as a School Nurse within the HCDPBC School Health Program and experience in the management of student chronic conditions, including diabetic students.----Certification:Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required. National Certified School Nurse (NCSN) preferred.--Licensure:Current State of Florida Registered Nurse license (unrestricted) required.--Active Florida Driver License requiredTraining:Emergency Treatment & Triage Training provided upon orientation with biennial updates.Health Care District of Palm Beach County is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer and Drug Free Workplace.
