Registered Nurse Supervisor, School Health - West Palm Beach, FL


This position provides administrative, clinical & operational supervision and leadership to the School Health Program Nursing staff in their assigned areas of the county. Responsible for the safe and effective delivery of services in the School Health Rooms, exemplifyingHCD overall mission, vision, and values. A "servant leader" coordinating the daily activities of registered nurses, clinical coordinators, and other staff in the school health program in accordance with established regulations, policies, nursing standards, and instruction; liaising with school district administrators and staff. Maintains school health nursing competencies and occasionally works as a nurse in a school health room; maintains and improves personal competencies by participating in and attending professional educational programs and meetings and reading current professional literature.--Initial Review Date: 7/25/22. Essential Functions:----Provides supervision, leadership, and direction to assigned team of nurses and other personnel daily; directs the work of employees to ensure the most effective use of resources; visits health rooms regularly to ensure adherence to clinical practices and standard quality operations; collaborates with peers to ensure coordinated delivery of the school health services; integrate continuous quality and performance improvement process in daily activities Coaches, teach, and mentor employees to adhere to standard procedures and practices, and improves the quality of clinical processes and outcomes of student health services.Evaluates employees through established criteria, and competencies, and regular school visits to ensure nursing standards of practice and specific health room procedures are met.--Visits health rooms regularly to evaluate employees' performance, ensure efficient and safe health room operations, and established procedures and standards of practice are followed; conducts audits and assessments, addressing concerns in a timely and just culture approach.--Exemplifies the HCD mission vision and values related to the delivery of health services county wide.--Ensures positive and collaborative relationships with all assigned principals, school administration, and designees with ongoing communication via email or on-site visits.--Records compliments, grievances, complaints, and risk occurrences are documented in the Event Reporting system; reviews reports from internal and external sources, prepare written and oral reports for the monthly Risk and Quality Review Meetings; evaluates assigned performance (KPI, Budget, Quality Metrics) and takes necessary corrective action.--Partners with the peers and school health leadership to ensure streamlined and collaborative communication, timely problem resolution, and positive relationships with providers, parents/guardians, and school administration, so that nurses are supported, engaged, and effective in delivering exceptional care.--Works in the School Health Support Center, as defined, to provide real-time support and solutions for the nurses in the schools; document issues and solutions for ongoing monitoring and process improvement; ensure occurrences are captured in the Event--Report System and contribute to root cause analysis, if applicable; actively seek assistance to solve problems.--Maintains school health nursing competencies and is a "servant leader' by occasionally working as a nurse in a school health room; maintains appropriate certifications, licenses, and continuing education credits; maintains and improves personal competencies by participating in and attending professional educational programs, meetings, self-study, and reading current professional school health literature.--Evaluates and analyzes performance, incidents, quality, and risk metrics to identify opportunities to improve procedures, protocols, guides, tools, education, and overall operations and care; actively seek assistance from Leadership Team, as appropriate, for solving problems--Communicates regularly with employees both individually and in staff meetings; monitors staff time and attendance daily utilizing the electronic software provided; develops a plan to evaluate and counsel staff related to requests for time off during the school session if students are present;--Counsels staff about professional growth and advanced education; encourages staff to attend continuing education programs to meet licensure requirements; monitor and report required educational compliance of nursing staff to meet licensure needs, keeping all parties informed of impending needs; ensure staff attend HCDPBC nurse development days Assists in the development and delivery of the education days, orientation, development, and competency sessions for staff.--Collaborates and completes assignments from committees; creating, revising, and continuously improving documents, training, maintenance, and revision of documents assigned; dissemination and training of staff on protocols and procedures.--Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent which includes collaboration with community partners and assisting with community services pre-and post-hurricanes ordisasters. Delegates nursing staff to areas of the county as needed and supports hospitalswith qualified nursing staff in emergencies. Works closely with Red Cross leaders to supplement nursing or non-nursing services in regular hurricane shelters. Performs other emergency duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural.


Education:Associate's degree or equivalent in nursing from an accredited nursing institution is required. Bachelor's degree in Health Administration, related field or Nursing (preferred).--Experience:Three (3) to four (4) years of experience in a healthcare setting (school health, clinic, provider's office, etc.) is required. Five (5) years of experience in school health, emergency, or pediatric nursing is preferred. Two (2) to five (5) years as a lead or supervisory capacity of nursing staff with multiple skill levels is required.--Certification:Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.--Licensure:State of Florida Registered Nurse license required.
