Description Job Summary Functions independently within the delegated parameters delineated by their Supervising Physician. The PMHNP provides comprehensive care as a primary mental health care provider at an Advanced Practice level to children and their families in an inpatient and outpatient psychiatric setting through assessment, communication, clinical management, collaboration, education, and program development. Duties include: the ability to ascertain a thorough patient history and physical examination; order and interpret radiological and laboratory test results, instruct and counsel patient and family; prescribe medications; order and carry out therapy and management plans within their scope of practice. Works in collaboration with the Child Psychiatrist and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Documents and bills visits appropriately. Job Specific Duties

  • Provides a full range of comprehensive patient care management, within a collaborative practice model inclusive of psychotherapy, consultation, and liaison services.
  • Provides culturally sensitive patient care that is in accordance with state licensure and regulations and is based upon standards of practice as defined by APRN certifying agencies of ANCC and PNCB.
  • Assesses, diagnoses, plans, implements, and evaluates care of the pediatric patient, working collaboratively with other health professionals using approaches that recognize each ones expertise to meet the needs of the patient.
  • Generates, collects, and integrates data from a wide variety of sources in order to make clinical judgments and decisions about the initiation of orders, procedures, referrals, and treatments.
  • Expands clinical and professional knowledge base. Recognizes the importance of participation in professional organizations. Accepts personal and professional development and the maintenance of professional competencies and credentials.
  • Models professional verbal and written communication with the interdisciplinary team members involved in the ongoing management of patients to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Participates in necessary activities associated with patient care (writing daily progress notes, coordinating clinical care, discharge planning, etc.).
  • Writes orders, monitors/alters drug therapies, and performs other procedures within established protocol in collaborative relationship with a Physician(s).
  • Provides psychiatric diagnostic/medication evaluations & individual/group medication management. Provides children/youth and families with all necessary medication education and psycho-education.
  • Orders and monitors appropriate laboratory tests at clinically indicated frequency. Monitors and reviews children/youth charts for medication/medical issues with appropriate follow-up.
  • Provides clinical supervision and/or consultation to multidisciplinary treatment teams in developing and implementing clinically appropriate individual treatment plans.
  • Provides crisis support for clinical emergencies as arranged.
  • Reports high risk/problem cases and solicits consultation and help as needed. Attends supervision at approved times and intervals, & incorporates supervision into clinical practice and job performance.
  • Engages children/youth and their families in the treatment and goal-setting process. Identifies/provides appropriate intervention for risk factors including lethality.
  • Works constructively with children/youth to reach agreed upon outcome, and coordinates care with internal and external providers.
  • Maintains appropriate professional boundaries and standards. Maintains effective interpersonal relations with children/youth, peers, management, visitors, and the general public.
  • Effectively responds to children/youth/family needs and problems, initiates and maintains positive interactions, and provides timely response to phone calls, pages, email and other requests.
  • Provides appropriate follow-up with receiving psychiatrist as indicated.
  • Works cooperatively with other community agencies. Participates in NCHS committees and task forces as appropriate and as agreed with supervisor. Qualifications Minimum Job Requirements
    • Master's or doctoral degree in nursing
    • APRN State of Florida Licensure - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
    • National Certification as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
    • American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
    • CPI - Crisis Prevention Institute - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
    • Successful completion of Credentialing by NCHS Medical Administration required
    • Level II Background Check Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
      • Availability for weekend call coverage is required.
      • Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, families, and co-workers.
      • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
      • Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
      • Ability to problem solve to formulate a plan of care and evaluate the patient's response to care.
      • Ability to interpret, adapt and react calmly under stressful conditions.
      • Able to exhibit professionalism, enthusiasm, courtesy, adaptability, flexibility, and spirit of cooperation in the work environment.
