About This Position

The Department of Dermatology at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, has an exciting opportunity for a Full-time Postdoctoral Associate. The Post Doctoral Associate performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.

  • Prepares research reports and technical papers for publishing.

  • Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories.

  • Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.

  • Develops advanced analytical models and systems and provides solutions and analyses to support strategic and tactical decisions.

  • Perform complex laboratory assignments, including the planning and conducting of projects related to cell culture and molecular biology. -

  • Solve problems in scientific and technical execution, interpret experimental data and maintain accurate records. - May need to develop, adapt and implement new lab procedures.

  • Assist in the preparation of data and figures for manuscripts and for scientific presentations using Power Point, and other graphics software as needed.

  • Search literature for references to technical problems and keep informed by reading technical journal and publications.

  • Prepare manuscripts for publication in collaboration with UM Faculty and staff.

  • Ensure and document laboratory adherence to safety standards, especially in the use of hazardous items.

  • Assist with the implementation of new program and initiatives.

  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students as appropriate.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - -

    • Ph.D. in relevant field

    • No prior experience required

    • Ability to perform basic cell and molecular biology techniques (cell culture of immortalized, cancer and normal cells; preparation of normal cells from animal tissues; analysis of immune cells by FACS; functional assays for immune cells; DNA and RNA extraction; PCR, RT-PCR; survival in vitro assays; viability assay; western blotting).

    • Abilities to handle small animals including tail tipping for genotyping. Abilities to inoculate tumor cells into mice in the form of subcutaneous inoculation, brain inoculation, heart inoculation. Ability to extract immune cells and prepare them for analysis and/or further assays.

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills

    • Strong organization skills; ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines. - Must demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy, time management skills, and follow-through. - -

    • Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively within a team. - (Must be highly motivated, responsible, dependable and a self-starter).

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (ex: Word, Excel, PowerPoint), statistical software, big data analysis.

    • Must demonstrate willingness to learn new techniques, procedures, processes, and computer programs as needed.

    • Experience with Immunohistochemically staining preferred.
