MUST BE ABLE TO WORK EVERY SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. JOB TITLE: Head of Housekeeping REPORTS TO: Resort Manager SUMMARY: This position is primarily responsible for supervising Housekeepers, Housemen, and Laundry personnel, maintaining housekeeping standards throughout the resort by performing the following duties personally or though subordinate supervisors and staff members. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Supervises Housekeepers and Laundry personnel, ensuring that scores relating to Housekeeping department are kept to a minimum standard. Assigns housekeepers to specific tasks, including specific rooms to clean. Maintains inventory of all housekeeping supplies (cleaning chemicals, tools, etc.) and housewares (dishes, pots & pans, small appliances, linens, etc.) and ensures that those items are replaced in units as needed. Conducts performance reviews of all personnel on an annual basis or as needed. Disciplines employees as needed. Communicates with other departments regarding room status (clean/dirty, vacant/occupied, out of order, etc.) daily. ACCOUNTABILITY: Accountable for department purchases (housekeeping supplies, house wares, linens) and making sure that those purchases are kept in good condition by staff. Quality control with regard to housekeeping standards throughout the resort. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises 8-12 employees in the Housekeeping Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Education: GED Experience: Minimum one year as a housekeeping supervisor. Alternately, will accept one year in hospitality housekeeping plus one year as a supervisor in a different field. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Be able to speak, read, and write English fluently due to nature of position. Fluency in Hatian Creole is also helpful but not required. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. HOURS: Five days a week INCLUDING SATURDAY AND SUNDAY Saturday is a long day (10+ hours) and is MANDATORY. This is a very physically demanding job that includes being outside in the weather part of the time, regardless of weather conditions (sun, rain, wind, etc.) and includes a great deal of walking and some stair-climbing. Applicant must be able to handle the physical demands of this job for long hours, especially on Saturdays.
