Position Summary The Human Resource Director is responsible for the
Zoo's people business. Our people are essential to carrying out our
mission and this role provides critical leadership, support, and
guidance to our entire team, and ensures compliance with all
current and future regulatory guidelines and laws. Essential
Position Functions
- Manage the hiring and onboarding process, identifying staff
vacancies and opportunities and providing strategy for recruitment
and hiring, ensuring not just a skill set fit, but more
importantly, a strong cultural fit. Plan and conduct new employee
orientation as part of staff onboarding process.
- Assist Zoo's leadership in addressing human needs including
dispute resolution, administering disciplinary processes, and
employee terminations. Advise and train managers on organizational
policy matters and assess other training needs, working with
managers to design employee development and growth plans.
- Full responsibility for the semi-monthly payroll process,
ensuring accurate record keeping including documentation of new
hires, terminations, pay adjustments, PTO, benefits selections,
etc.
- Administer benefits programs for employees including health,
dental, life and disability insurance, 401(k) and Roth plans, and
COBRA administration.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local regulatory
requirements.
- Manage termination process from documentation through to COBRA
compliance. Conduct exit interviews, communicating results to Zoo
Chiefs to ensure any opportunities for improvement are identified.
Other:
- The Human Resource Director is a key member of the Zoo's
Leadership team and will serve on ad hoc committees from time to
time where the human component is critical in future planning

duties requested by their supervisor. Requirements Education
Requirements and Technical Skills
- Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education
and experience
- SHRM or other equivalent certification preferred
- Demonstrated success in payroll and human resource management
with a minimum of three to five years of related professional
experience, non-profit environment a plus
- Experience in structuring and managing staff onboarding and
training
- Strong communication and relationship skills required Skills
