Location: Miami
Posted on: February 25, 2021

Job Description:

As a leader in the European and Latin Cruise industry, Pullmantur is continuously expanding and seeking dynamic, energetic, experienced professionals to join our team. With our innovative, award-winning fleet of ships visiting five continents, each offering adventurous ways to explore the globe, this is a great opportunity to let your career set sail.

We are currently seeking 2nd Officers to join our team. Potential candidates must have at least two years of experience as a watchkeeping officer in the maritime industry with a cargo/cruise line company. 2nd Officer is a licensed Watchkeeping Officer, and may stand his/her own watch. Should the Master determine that the 2nd Officer is fit and competent to do so; the 2nd Officer shall occupy watches that are primarily during day and evening hours when senior bridge officers are normally accessible.

Responsibilities:

- Watch

* The watch keeping officer shall ensure that all safety, security and environmental regulations are obeyed and that the alarm and indicator panels are under observation always. He or she shall ensure that safety rounds are carried out in accordance with the master's standing orders.

* The watch keeping officer shall report to the Master and/or Staff Captain any significant events that occurred on his or her watch. Important events shall be reported immediately, but he or she is to act on his initiative if necessary.

* Should the watch keeping officer find it necessary to give an order to the engine room that would likely result in equipment damage as advised by the watch keeping engineer or the Chief Engineer, the responsibility rests with the watch keeping officer. The decision of the Master should be obtained if time permits. The Master is to be informed in any case. The time and details shall be entered into the logbook.

- Port

* In port, the watch keeping officer shall keep radio contact with the security guards at the gangways. He or she shall regularly check that the gangway operation is free of problems.

* The watch keeping officer shall, from the bridge, supervise any shifting of moorings and be aware of any important work in progress outside normal working hours and whenever good seamanship dictates. He or she shall be constantly alert for sudden strong winds that might affect the ship's moorings. He or she shall notify the Master or, if the Master is ashore, the Staff Captain at once and take corrective actions as the need arises.

- NPP

* The watch keeping officer shall be familiar with and comply with the Navigation Policy and Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures, Master's Standing Orders, and STCW.

Primary Duties:

- FFE

* The officer designated for this task shall supervise the inspections and maintenance of the ship's fire fighting equipment, including maintaining the inventory and maintenance records in the maintenance program.

- LSA

* The officer designated for this task shall supervise the maintenance and repair of the ship's lifeboats, rescue boats, tenders and descent gear. He or she shall ensure that the lifeboats are fully fueled, the batteries are charged, and they are properly equipped and ready to launch always. He or she shall work in close cooperation with the Engine Department on the technical topics. He or she shall also ensure that the condition of the life rings, smoke signals and lights are perfect. This Officer shall maintain the inventory and maintenance records of the above lifesaving equipment in the Maintenance system.

* This watch keeping Officer shall ensure that the weekly and monthly inspections are carried out in compliance with SOLAS Chapter III Reg. 20.6 and 20.7, respectively.

- WT

* He or she shall supervise the testing of the fire screen doors on a weekly basis, ensuring that all fire screen doors are tested for function at least monthly.

* He or she shall ensure that all watertight doors are operated daily and inspected at least once a week, according to SOLAS, Chapter II-1, Regulation 24. He or she shall ensure that a record of all tests, drills, and inspections are entered in the log book with a detailed description of any defects that have been disclosed (Ref SOLAS II-1, Regulation 25).

- Safety Training

* Furthermore, all watch keeping officers shall, in conjunction with the Chief Officer Safety, Security Officer, and other marine officers, train the crew both in regular drills and in smaller groups to ensure that all crew are familiar with their duties in the safety organization. The training shall be organized in a monthly schedule prepared by the Chief Officer Safety and approved by the Master and Staff Captain.
