PowerSchool's Customer Education division develops and delivers training to K-12 education customers on-site, at conferences, and online. They strive to enhance customer success with PowerSchool products by delivering engaging, job-centered, practical, and user-friendly training tutorials and materials. The team writes technical and narrative content for conferences, eLearning environments, trainer presentations, and videos. Topics include subjects ranging from technical software processes to K-12 professional development concepts. The Instructional Designer works under moderate supervision to design, manipulate, and style graphics for learning courses and materials. The graphics in our modules are a fusion of hand drawn artwork and conceptual illustration. Along with creating diagrams, icons, flowcharts, etc., the Instructional Designer must be proficient at drawing characters in a realistic school setting. This position works closely with Curriculum Specialists and Multimedia Developers to define and produce graphics, diagrams, presentation strategies and other visual communication.

Gain familiarity with the features, processes, functions, and uses of PowerSchool's K-12 Technology products

Create images and illustrations in support of course scripts and presentations

Create graphics that are engaging, informative, and supportive of the content

Create conceptual illustrations that help learners understand complex information

Collaborate with team members to develop story lines for distance learning courses and tutorials

Produce high-quality graphics for a wide range of purposes according to strict deadlines

Adhere to style guides for designing diagrams, animations and graphics

Provide feedback on graphics designed by team members

Attend team and product-related meetings, as needed

Contribute innovative ideas for designing and expanding training offerings

Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure accuracy of content and relevance to targeted audience

All other responsibilities assigned by management


To be considered for and to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Qualifications include:

Education and/or Experience

o Bachelors degree in Graphic Design, Communication Design, Interface Design, Media Art, or Animation

o Minimum of three years experience with 3 or more of the following: Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator, PowerPoint or Keynote, HTML, CSS, Quark, InDesign, or equivalent programs used for art manipulation and creation

oA candidate portfolio consisting of excellence in illustration, clothed figure drawing, character design, storyboarding and animation, as well as strong knowledge of composition, color theory, typography and other design concepts (focus on instructional topics is a plus)

o Experience in K-12 Education a plus

Specialized Knowledge or Certifications

o Working knowledge of: Adobe Captivate, Adobe Flash, Adobe Audition, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Dreamweaver and HTML

o Working knowledge of Office 365, SharePoint, and other technical collaborative environments

o Special consideration for applicants who have experience in writing for HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL, and J-query

o Must have a high-level understanding of:

?Adult learning theories

?Editorial review process

?Instructional development and design methods (using highly visual and web-based media)

?Current education trends

o Knowledgeable about and keeps current with media and instructional technology literature and other areas of expertise
