Job Description:

Perform general duties assigned to a cytogenetic technologist, including karyotype and FISH technologies. Provide expertise in technical troubleshooting, for both wet lab and analysis. Other duties as assigned.
Schedule: Monday - Friday from 10:00am to 6:30 pm. Occasional Saturdays. On call rotation for stat services.
Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs routine cytogenetic tests and molecular cytogenetics tests independently with accuracy and efficiency.
• Develops new testing procedures.
• Provides technical expertise to technologists.
• Develops new cytogenetic procedures.
• Provides technical expertise in troubleshooting.
• Monitors the performance of the equipment.
• Maintains adequate levels of inventory of supplies for their working areas.
• Provides expertise in technical troubleshooting.
• Participates in reviewing and revising lab manual.
• Assists the team leader/supervisor in preparation of the lab for safety inspections, and laboratory surveys for licensing
• Alerts the team leader/general supervisor for unusual events or unexpected results.
• Communicates with team leader/supervisor when having unusual test results or technical /clinical concerns.
• Seeks advice from team leader/supervisor when uncertain with test procedures or results.
• Attends staff meeting regularly.
• Participates in continuing education programs and AGT meetings.
• Contributes to cytogenetics technology training program, residents, and ABMG trainees.

      • Has a BS degree in biological, chemical and/or medical sciences from an accredited college or university or an equivalent to the above degree.
      • Certified by the National Credentialing Agency (NCA) as a Clinical Laboratory Specialist in Cytogenetics (CLSp-CG).
      • Licensed or eligible for licensure by the State of Florida as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
      • Minimum of 5 years of work experience as a technologist in cytogenetics.
        In order to ensure the safety of our patients , this position requires as part of the post-offer onboarding process, successful completion of medical surveillance testing which includes: TB testing; proof of immunity or vaccination for Hepatitis B, Varicella, and MMR; proof of vaccination for COVID-19 (must be fully vaccinated: at least two weeks or more following receipt of the second dose in a two-dose series, or two or more weeks following receipt of a single-dose vaccine plus booster when eligible); annual flu vaccination; and color blind deficiency testing (if required by position).
