Job Description Job Description Job Title: Animal Care Technician Job Description This position is responsible for all aspects of animal care and ascites production, including tasks such as tapping, injection, cage changing, and cleaning, as well as maintaining nursery information. Responsibilities Complete goals and projects as assigned in a timely fashion. Demonstrate a good understanding of ascites production activities, such as priming and collecting, by performing related tasks with minimal supervision. Change cages and monitor animals to ensure their well-being. Supply the animals with food and water on a regular schedule. Assist with interdepartmental needs to ensure continued smooth operations. Maintain effective and professional communication and working relationships with company personnel. Maintain confidentiality. Follow the company’s quality policy in all daily activities. Scrape dirty cages and prepare them for washing. Load the cage washer with scraped cages and run them through the cycle. When necessary, handle manual washing of scraped cages. Work occasional weekends and overtime hours as necessary. Essential Skills Laboratory skills Animal husbandry Ability to work with mice in a laboratory environment Ability to read, understand, and follow all company production procedures, SOPs, and guidelines Self-starter, detail-oriented, and organized Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and oral communication skills Ability to maintain regular attendance and punctuality Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills Additional Skills & Qualifications Exposure to animals in a similar capacity is a plus Degree in science-related fields such as animal science, zoology, or animal handling is a plus High school diploma or equivalent required No prior experience necessary Proficiency in the English Language, including reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension Work Environment This position operates within a laboratory and warehouse environment. The role requires the ability to routinely lift 35-50 lbs, wear personal protective equipment such as face coverings, gloves, and lab coats, and the ability to stand, sit, stoop, reach, and push or pull carts throughout the work shift. You may be required to work outside normal business hours, including evenings and weekends, to support business needs. Adherence to bio-safety and chemical hygiene practices is mandatory when working on the manufacturing floor or in laboratories. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.82/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
