The Division of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at the
University of Miami is seeking a full- time, Clinical Assistant
Professor (educator faculty, non-tenure track). This position will
also serve as the Director of Professional Identity Formation (P IF
). In coordination with Medical Education leadership, the
Professional Identity Formation (PIF) Committee, Medicine as a
Profession Course Leadership, and Student Services:
- Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive PIF program,
encompassing ethics, compassion, cultural sensitivity,
professionalism, and collaboration within the medical
profession.
- Design curricula, workshops, seminars, and other educational
tools to enhance understanding and engagement with PIF
concepts.
- Foster a learning environment that supports open dialogue,
critical reflection, mentorship, and personal growth.
- Develop and maintain resources such as handbooks, online
platforms, and support groups to aid students in their professional
identity journey.
- Train longitudinal clinical educators on regular debriefing
sessions with medical students following clinical rotations,
helping them reflect on experiences, challenges, successes, and
areas for growth.
- Facilitate open and honest discussions, encouraging critical
thinking, empathy, ethical reasoning, and professional
development.
- Provide individualized support, recognizing and addressing
emotional responses to clinical experiences, and guiding students
in managing stress and resilience.
- Monitor and assess students' progress, providing feedback and
identifying opportunities for additional support or training as
needed.
- Design and utilize effective debriefing tools and
methodologies, keeping abreast of best practices in medical
education and clinical debriefing. The individual hired in this
position will be expected to provide clinical supervision of
assessments and therapy using evidence-based strategies, to
teach/co-teach courses, and to foster relationships with our highly
diverse community to continue to develop new programs and training
opportunities for students. Opportunities to provide direct
clinical services through the palliative medicine in-patient
consult services. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in
clinical psychology or related field from an APA-accredited
clinical science or scientist-practitioner program and be licensed
or license-eligible to practice in the State of Florida. Clinical
experience and expertise in both assessment and therapy with adult
individuals diagnosed with serious illness. Applicants should
